when to treat breast ptosis

A cure for breast ptosis is envisaged when the breast droops, with a sagging mammary gland and loose, distended skin.  The position of the bust is lower than normal, and its top is often hollow or empty.  There are three types of ptosis: so-called “pure” ptosis, ptosis linked to hypertrophy (overly large breasts) and ptosis linked to hypotrophy (excessively small breasts).  Breasts can sag after significant weight loss and after multiple pregnancies.

The common characteristic in all types of ptosis is sagging or excess skin in the upper part of the breast.  In case of excess skin, the surgeon can offer isolated treatment to raise the breast to its proper level, by treating the excess skin.

When the patient has particularly small breasts and also suffers from ptosis, a breast augmentation prosthesis is used in addition to the breast lift.

Please note that health insurance does not cover this type of operation, since the discomfort and correction are purely aesthetic.

how does breast ptosis correction work?

As with all cosmetic surgery, the breast ptosis correction project is created together with your surgeon. He or she will recommend the best solution for your body type, in accordance with your wishes.  A mammogram will be prescribed if you have not had one in the last three months.

Excess tissue is removed so that the mammary gland can remain in its desired position, harmonious with the rest of the body.  Fitting a prosthesis is not mandatory.  This decision depends on each case and the existing volume of the mammary gland.

Hospitalization for the cure lasts two days. The operation is performed under general anesthesia and lasts from two to three hours, depending on the treatment. For the best results, the patient sits through the operation.

after the operation

In most cases, this procedure is not painful. Temporary bruising and swelling may occur in the breasts and disappear within a few weeks.  In the case of breast prosthesis, pain can occur due to the nature of the treatment.

Stitches are made with dissolvable threads inside the breasts. There is no need to remove the stitches.

A compression bra that is prescribed and evaluated before the operation should be worn for one month following the procedure.  The surgeon will determine the optimal size for maximum comfort and support.  Sports and heavy lifting are to be avoided during the entire period.  Direct sun exposure to the scars should be avoided for six months following the operation.

Nota bene: Since this is purely cosmetic surgery, the surgeon cannot prescribe paid sick leave. However, one week of rest is recommended after the operation.
