the top 5 tips “good-looking” during the winter

It’s grey, cold, windy, frosty and snowy… so many factors put our precious skin to the test.

With the mercury in free fall, we light fires in the chimney and turn on the heaters.  The air gets dry, and our skin takes a beating!

Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s time to share our invaluable tips that will help you maintain a healthy glow and be radiant for the holiday season. The Clinique de la Croix d’Or Clinic tells all!

CLEANSE

Using a cleanser is one of the best defenses against dry, cracked skin. But cleanse gently, please!

Avoid detergents such as facial wipes, that remove natural oils from the skin and dry it out.  We prefer gentle and moisturizing facial cleansers without soap, alcohol or perfume.

TIP +  Opt for a small cleaning brush (six times more effective than manual cleansing) whose gentle contact provides a deep clean.

We recommend lukewarm rather than hot water, which can dry out your skin even more.  Carefully pat your skin dry with a towel to avoid further irritation and dryness.

EXFOLIATE

It’s wintertime, the season of chapped lips, red noses, dry faces and hands. To combat dehydrated skin, exfoliation is essential, even more important than moisturizing.

Get rid of dead skin cells, to smooth the skin and prepare it for your daily skincare products.

TIP + Before braving the Siberian cold, treat yourself to a superficial peel at the Clinique de la Croix d’Or to minimize dryness and flaking this season.

Recommendation: An exfoliating mask is your best friend to encourage cell turnover.

MOISTURIZE AND NOURISH THE SKIN

Applying a good moisturizer is one of the most important steps in your winter skincare regimen. It replenishes the skin with precious lipids, essential components of a healthy barrier that keeps the moisture sealed in.

TIP +:  Find a cream or serum with a high concentration of hyaluronic acid, or other active ingredients that contain a high level of hydration, and Vitamin E, which is excellent for combating pollution (Check out the skin care products from the UNIVERSKIN range from the Clinique de la Croix d’Or).

TIP ++: The Clinique de la Croix d´Or can provide you with a complete and personalized assessment of your skin in order to determine your care skin needs.

Our favorite: Custom-blended Teoxan serum, created on site by our assistants, for optimal results combined with the ideal nourishing balm that protects against seasonal aggressions, and is paraben and fragrance free.

Our recommendation: Remember to moisturize your face and body immediately after showering, to lock in moisture.

PROTECT AGAINST UV

Your skin does not like bad UV rays. When it’s cold, in winter, it is easy to forget to protect against the sun.  But UV rays can be aggressive, causing dryness and burns, sometimes even serious lesions.

If you thought you were done slathering on the daily sun protection, you were wrong!   Take out your total sun block or at least SPF 30 to protect against the reflection of the sun’s rays on snow and ice.

The Universkin Total Screen + has a light and silky texture that can be applied over any type of treatment.

Our recommendation: As on the beach, apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside, and reapply as necessary

TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN DAILY

Be active to stimulate natural radiance! In summer, we spend most of our time outdoors, which makes us feel and look better.

In cold weather, bundled up under the covers, watching the snow fall, we can be less motivated to go outside.

We’ll have to get moving a bit if we want to avoid the pale and tired complexion of someone who stays still!  Getting outside for fresh air will help stimulate circulation, keep your heart rate up and your glow intact.  Try walking for at least twenty minutes a day to obtain a natural radiance.

TIP +: Favor activities that tone (such as Miha Bodytec sessions with a personal coach) and try mesotherapy, an amazing treatment which gives radiance to the complexion, restores tone and provides anti-aging benefits to your skin at the Aslan Medical Center.

Our recommendation: Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and to maintain your skin’s elasticity.
